Nurturing Children & Child Protection
The Cuppy Foundation has partnered with Save the Children International to form pathways to education for children in northern Nigeria; specifically focused on Borno, Adamawa and Katsina State.
Our work is focused on providing lifesaving gender-based nutrition, child protection, adolescent sexual reproductive health and education interventions.
In Nigeria, there are over 20 million ‘out-of-school’ children. This presents as a steady contributor to the country’s illiteracy rate of 31%. In northern regions in Nigeria, there are several hurdles to educational attainment. Armed conflict, gender based-violence and lack of basic nutrition are a few contributing factors. This has resulted in geo-political zones such as the north-east having a literacy rate of only 50.5% for boys and 31.8% for girls. In Borno for example, 74.8% of children aged 4-16 years old have never attended school.
